Reliance Jio announced that it has started to charge 6p/min for every voice all to other networks starting from 10th October. These new charges will be according to the IUC which is managed by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). The inter-networking outgoing calls cost money to the company. So you have to pay when you call other networks while the calls from Jio to Jio network it still free and Jio to landline is also free.
In order to call other company numbers, you need to first recharge your number with IUC vouchers. Reliance Jio announced 4 new top-up vouchers which are from Rs. 10 to Rs. 100. The company will also offer additional data to the users so that you do not have to overspend. These new charges are also applicable to the postpaid users and you will get free data along with the new recharges.
According to the statement issued by Reliance Jio to the media, they said that it is forced to implement these new call charges on the IUC operators. They also said that due to the IUC from their company they have paid about Rs 13,500 crores to other companies in the last three years. Even after the regulators were announced way back in 2017 the company still chare Rs 1.50/min.
The new plan will only be until the TRAI removes the IUC completely until then you have to pay for the off-net calls. As per the amendments from the regulator in 2017, they are going to implement zero termination charge from 1st January 2020 so this means there won’t be any charges posted by Reliance Jio. The company is hopeful with new IUC charges will start and this new charge on the voice calls to another network will be removed on 31st December 2019.
